# Giving people URL permissions

URL permissions let people manage a URL itself: its team, its configuration and the Projects and Libraries in it. They are separate from Project Roles, which control what people do inside a Project.

You can only give URL permissions to someone who is already in the URL. That is why this step comes after [inviting people](inviting_users.html.md#admin-guide-inviting-users).

URL permissions can only be given to people in the Organization that owns the URL. People from another Organization, such as a partner company, can work in the URL's Projects through their Project Role, but cannot be given URL permissions. If a save includes a change for someone from another Organization, none of the changes in that save are applied.

## Opening the URL team

1. Go to the URL home page.
2. Click the **Team** card.

The page shows everyone in the URL as a grid, with a column for each URL permission. Clicking a user's name shows the Projects they hold a role in.

## The main permissions

- **Manager:** Gives every URL permission, including changing other people's URL permissions. Managers can remove people from the URL and deactivate the accounts of people in your own Organization. A Manager can see and change every Project in the URL, whatever their Project Role.
- **User:** Lets someone see every Project in the URL and add or remove people from Project teams. It does not let them change Project data. For that they need a Project Role.

The other permissions each cover one area, such as creating Projects or managing Labels. They are listed on the [URL Teams](../urls/url_teams.html.md#url-teams) page.

## Changing permissions

1. Click the cells you want to change, or copy and paste TRUE or FALSE across several cells.
2. Click **Save**. Nothing is saved until you do.

TrialGrid will not save a change that leaves the URL with no Manager. If that happens, none of the changes in that save are applied.

## Removing someone from a URL

A Manager can remove someone from the URL from the same page. This removes them from every Project in the URL. You confirm by typing DELETE. The same dialog can also:

- remove them from every URL in your Organization;
- deactivate their account, which stops them signing in to TrialGrid at all. This is only possible for people in your own Organization.

You cannot remove the last person who can manage the URL's team.
